if you re going to launch a label, it s always wise to start with a bang. that s exactly what newcomers audio visual have done here, recruiting detroit veteran terrence dixon and chez damier cohort michael zucker (boss of finale recordings, no less) for a four-track trip into deep techno and intergalactic house. dixon goes deep into the groove on the hissing, intoxicating deep techno roller -mta-, before delivering a touch more melody on the retro-futurist gem -over the top-. zucker, on the other hand, opts for a jaydee-does-deep house feel to -foundation (part 1)-, before setting off towards the heavens with the deliciously deep, smooth reflections

sometimes it is best to let the music do the talking, this is one of those occasions. local talks 46th release comes from exciting debutant sameed. little did we know about sameed before we got the four tracks for this 12 inch, for all we know it could be your neighbour. quick-firing the release is spend, functional as a set highlight with its dubby chords, vocal snippets and a wonky bassline. included on the b-side is a dub that will work perfect as a dj tool for those who want to go a little bit deeper. showcasing sameeds sense for keeping things stripped down and sweaty, still is a dirty exercise in acid witchcraft while getyoself can best be described as a delicately raw rhythm with dark textures.

his debut album *face to face* is deliriously deep and melancholic, rhythmically complex and gives a fragile new voice to techno. across the eleven original tracks, phillippe quenum exudes a graceful temperance creating tracks that flutter and take flight (indulge in synth voices of *children of the sun*) as well as rattle the bass bins (sample the raw energy of *basic solution* and delicate power of *ritual*). both sparse and insightful (*my people*) as well as intricate and anthemic (*never loose my soul*), quenums delivery is always quirky and slightly surprising and *face to face* is a curious analysis into this honest musical soul.

bushwick17 is a project by costanza francavilla and alex infascelli. it is a 17 minutes improvisation session, recorded in bushwick on a summer afternoon - with no additional edits, mixing or efx. the idea is based on both artists s obsession with the number 17: the concept was to freely capture 17 minutes of their day together, without any thought before the act or any extra sound manipulation after the act. costanza placed 2 mics on the floor in the middle of the room - facing the wall - and played synthesizers while merging herself with dreamlike vocals into ambient floating textures. alex turned on a fan that was abandoned in the studio, placed the electric guitar in front of it, creating ethereal drones, and moving from guitars atmospheres to abruptly exploding yet sultry drums patterns. the result is an hypnotic sonic journey into an indefinite condition of space and time.

latest iib release features the north easts version of csn last waltz. a double header, the first track just hold on is a collaboration between last waltz & smoove. heartfelt vocals over a pastoral rolling chugger, deep bassline folky guitar strumming making this a favourite at iib hq. on the remix ess o ess raise the tempo a little bring out the electric guitars and increasing the chug to almost krautrock levels. on the flip side last waltz give us tribute. a deep atmospheric acid affair. mellow electric keys and percussion lull you into a false sense of security before the heavy kick and acid bassline drop with dark cello notes. machete savane take on the remix. replacing acid for guitar and adding some machine groove this slowly builds and builds into a top bubbler.

vin sol & matrixxman return with their second double-header of remixes of one of the most distinctive voices in modern music, revisiting two of the hallowed songstress classics from the 80s. first up is the beautiful *never thought* which has been given the remix treatment many times before due to the accapella being on the original 12 inch. here vs & m add early 90s house flourishes - warm pads, deep chords and the original vocal seeping in and out of the mix, whilst elements slowly start to build up for what is a pretty ecstatic house rework of a classic. simple and effective. fans of innervisions wont be disappointed! on the flip, *love is stronger* is a mellower take on one of her signature hits. sticking to a cool 110 bpm tempo, it has got a bubbly, woozy late sunday afternoon vibe emanating from the first 4 bars. another solid rework from the vin sol & matrixxman camp!

dehnert has continued to steer his fachwerk label through the techno undergrowth and it has now amassed more than 25 releases in all. at the heart of the labels output has been dehnerts own increasingly experimental techno and this new album is testament to the producers continued exploration of the form. where framework was, in the words of mike himself, focussed on the heavy techno form, this album explores broken bass, swinging house and beatless electronic experimentalism amongst other things. i love to release music. i still enjoy the album writing process very much, says mike, before adding, i have noticed that sometimes the succe ss of a track depends on the light at club, which is why the album is called lichtbedingt, meaning depends on light! the album starts off with a suitably sombre intro that features cold, slowly shifting synths.

for its inaugural release, spring theory has tapped san francisco producer avalon emerson for a three-track ep. its called church of somawhich, before you get any funny ideas about huxlean wonder drugs, is actually a reference to san franciscos industrial south of market district, which has been an epicenter for dance music since time immemorial. the record pays homage to her long nights spent dancing and djing in one particularly loved soma warehouse.

after travelling through the far flung galaxy for 002 ... forgotten corner aka phil banks & nick mackrory come back to planet earth & keep everything in house for their third label release. side a is kind of a track of two halves written and produced by nick mackrory - consisting of a 2 minute samba driven vocal intro, full of live instrumentation and featuring the live vocals of harry collier, before breaking down in to a deep hypnotic slow motion arpeggiated electronic groove! side b takes things back down in to the dark basements ... amongst the smoke machines, strobes & cans of warm red stripe! where phil adds his touch ... losing the live intro and taking things on a much more deep electronic instrumental bass wobble work out! still keeping the arpeggiated moog but with tougher beats and a much dirtier feel.

the sound of disco rose out of philadelphia in the 70s before being nurtured in new york and later rising to the top of the pops. by 1979 it made its way to india, where it was blended with sitars, tablas and huge orchestras in a wildly inventive, and often boldly surreal, fusion of purab aur pachhim (east and west).

this reissue comprises the entire 1991 matter lp, as well a bonus 7inch record containing 2 tracks never before released on vinyl. all songs on >matter< were recorded and mixed by tobias freund (pink elln). all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the vinyl is housed in a jacket featuring the photographic traces of a high-energy photon hitting a proton. each lp includes a 2-sided insert with original album reviews, press clippings, liner notes by atom and photos.

we’re really excited about this unusual ep from the unusually talented photomachine, his first outing on wicked bass. ‘black motorcycle’ a dark but deep number, measuredly working its way down into to a solid groove before it lifts its eyes skyward for a breakdown made up of delicate synthwork. ‘good news…bad dope’ is a more skittish cut, with its percussive elements laying low in the mix, whilst circling synths provide a menacing mood that juxtaposes itself with a well-placed vocal sample.

2013 was a good year for mr natalizia. breaking out of his musical (comfort) zone and touring schedule as one half of kompakt records stars walls, a deeper side to his music oeuvre was shown on the excellent not waving debut, umwelt, before then going on to compile the killer *mutazione* compilation of italian new wave 1980-1988 for strut records. spanning 9 tracks, *human capabilities* takes the sound of umwelt and the subsequent super limited cassette only reinterpretations of redacted and mixes harder percussive tracks alongside explorations of melody through ambient pieces that close each side.

for their next release, the diynamic label turns to a collaborative partnership that has had plenty of success before now, namely ntfo & karmon.

jbla came into being after julian jöckel (midnightopera) and stuart argabright (ike yard, black rain, o13) performed at a party in brussels on the 5th of oct. 2012 on invitation from bernardo risquez & michael langeder (different fountains). they all had met for the first time the year before through michael kreitz from meakusma when different fountains & o13 played concerts in eupen. after staying at different fountains studio the day after the brussels event they set up a rather improvised jam session. julian played synth on a yamaha dx7, bernardo worked the low frequencies on an old eminent organ while michael contributed machine sounds and took care of the live fx engineering. stuart put together some words and brought a beat to the occasion of the jam session at the df studio. during the short euro tour with ike yard, l.i.e.s label head ron morelli and artist svengalisghost came to the paris show and were talking with stuart about the streetwalkers of belleville, specifically the sad chinese hookers out on the street. combined with news about recent foxxconn workers suicides in china and witnessing altercations close to the air bnb where he stayed. the belleville ep are two cuts from that session with remixes from ron morelli + svengalisghost and vereker, pressed on translucent vinyl.

people must jam follow up the superb (and instant sell-out!) floor jammers vol. 1 with an absolute surefire jam from mark seven! my caesar is an irresistibly stripped back, melodic and atmospheric workout, consisting of those crisp mark seven rhythm tracks we so love on his parkway rhythm label and a spine-tingling soul vocal sample that pulls the whole thing together perfectly before a weighty & metallic detroit style low end takes us on home. in our humble opinion - it is a future classic!

starting off 2014 with an italian/manchester collaboration - the 3rd release on el diablos social club sees dj rocca (ajello, erodiscotheque, crimea x) & chris massey (electric elephant, paper recordings) join forces to bring us a selection of spaced out, chuggy goodness with just a bit of a nod to certain croatian festivals. drug chug kicks things off with a plodding 4/4 infused with cosmicesque swooshes & whooshes along with a bassline to rattle the funktion ones. whilst synths reminiscent of the time & space machine add that much needed touch of psych to proceedings. shone takes the party to late night in the club where spiky 909 percussion meets chunky analog basslines before dropping in with distorted & reverb drenched piano chords that guarantee to leave a lasting impression on both the head & heart! remix duties come in heavy on this release with craig bratley dusting drug chug with his own style of studio fairy dust to knock it up a notch that will surely please those who have followed his sounds on andrew weatheralls bird scarer imprint, robsoul, foto, is it balearic, instruments of rapture and his own magic feet label. lastly edscs very own head honcho neil diablo tackles shone and lays off the epic-ness and brings a straight up basement chugger. this release has grit & oomph balanced with a good helping of sunshine infused warmth that will ensure its place in the boxes of both house heads & balearic boys all over!

after a debut ep and a deep second one this time carlo zanelli has released a six tracks ep based upon a recording session done a couple of years before. every track have his unique character and the entire ep is intended more as a journey rather than a collection of different tracks making this a complete work ranging from ambient tracks to more danceable ones.

in recent times soul notes tilted a little towards more groove driven, distortion ladenmachine funk. snx001 is the missing release out of the snx series thus far. label head honcho kastil joins up with cologne based adryiano, who is quickly becoming one of the labels favorite household names. the signature snx sounds is developing into a dark psych-oriented club sound which this ep represents as never before. the opening track *snakes and holes* is pure percussive machinery with the heaviest overdriven kickdrums you will ever hear. on the a2, adryiano sets the mood with a low swinging bass and some eardrum deafening kicks which progresses into the b1 which is perced out to the max with some 303 bassline drama and distortion to top that off. for the b2 track, head honcho kastil shows off some lo-fi drum action on controversy.

on the *in between reality ep* noema invites you to an unheard psychedelic trip: like through a reverse prism, he melts down kraut rock, afro-american house drums and cosmic jazz into forbidden sounds of frenzied dancefloor rituals. outside traditional paths, these driving grooves and polyphonic structures take the adventure seeking dancer to dionysian highs and places never been before.

bristol music has always stood strongest as an alternative to the lowest common denominator, and so it is with brstl as the label continues to provide a platform to previously undiscovered talent in the underbelly of the citys flourishing house scene. following lauded debuts from shanti celeste and jay l, the sixth installment in the series turns to another unknown in the shape of samuel. as with other releases on brstl, 006 is made up of two distinct halves. on the a-side, >numberuma< delivers machine driven house of a rugged and charming nature. the drums switch up with playful intent but largely centre around a forward-charging 4/4 pulse with a faint hint of tropical flavour rubbed into the groove. meanwhile the limber lead keys speak of sunnier days through a cracked lens while the accompanying chord swells intone an equally uplifting and nostalgic message. while from the outset the track may be wrought from simple ingredients, the dynamic interplay between the different elements belies the producers years. on the flip, >groove therapy< opts for a more esoteric approach made up of long, dreamy lead-ins full of distant pads and delicate percussion and transitions as smooth as silk. indeed this track makes a smart foil to >numberuma<, choosing to snake its way into the subconscious through delicate melodic content and an undulating beat rather than rambunctious rhythm. slow-release filters draw that aforementioned pad in before sending it out to sea once more, and all the while the stripped back drums tick out a hypnotic chant. once again a pair of unique tracks loaded with character prove brstl to be an essential outpost for the most creative 4/4 music emanating from the west country.

affi is a glasgow based producer, dj and resident at the cult sunday circus, a collective infamous for throwing their long-lasting, day-after-the-night-before affairs. he regularly makes his presence felt at the most credible club nights and parties in and around the labels home town. as with the imprint he breaks ground for, koman has been making music for the last ten years with two previous releases already to his name. drawing inspiration from hawtins de9 - closer to the edit work with regard to the deconstruction of previous productions, the reassembling of intriguing new forms dominates his modus operandi and leads to this latest offering. the champagne breakfast ep puts forward the titular track on the a-side, ably abetted by in love and its dub remix love dub on the flip. an uplifting track which keeps on giving, the new release has already been subjected to test runs in the critical environs of a packed sub club and has proved worthy of the plaudits so far received.

the name sabota comes from the infamous area in nelson bc, where kids congregate late at night to smoke weed, hook up and watch the sun come up. both max ulis and robbie slade (of humans) both have (if somewhat indirect) roots in the area, making it a fitting concept for their collaboration. with the release of next time on discobelle, sabota immediately caught the attention of journalists and fans alike, and before any kind of formal release they have played sxsw, sled island in calgary, vancouver international jazz festival with nosaj thing, and symbiosis gathering. the two full-time music collaborators have been making ethereal goodness.

before his upcoming extended ep christian loeffler returns with this seven inch sized record. just like its unusual format this release features two unique pieces of music and an artwork created by loeffler himself. as on his debut album a forest, he teamed up once more with danish vocalist gry bagoien.

creme organization are getting busy right from the start of 2014, and here serve up an ep from detroit insider alex israel. israel has released on the label before and this new four track offering continues in his usual good form, exploring cerebral and atmospheric techno soundscapes with plenty of elan

with *believe in love* yousef returns home to circus recordings with 3 cuts that have been turning heads all summer long. the title track features the legendary vocal of roy davis jr who once again, asks the world a poignant question. a rolling, infectious and gnarly groove develops and unfolds into a long and harmonic breakdown before a blistering crescendo. designed for the heads but with still enough action for the people that follow yousefs more musically trickier offerings.
just a beat is exactly that. yousef busts out a stripped back boogie bass over tight drums and oddball acid. no messing around, heads down, hands up. what is revolution is completely reworked by circus label mates acid mondays. remixing one of the stand out cuts from yousefs recent *a product of your environment* artist album, the mondays show how to bring authentic house music into the 21st century.

following their acclaimed debut album, migration, on prins thomas internasjonal label in 2012, jamie paton and nigel hoyle (aka nigel of bermondsey) have seemed relatively quiet save for the odd remix here and there. tucked away deep in their south east london base though, a series of remixes and solo projects have been steadily forming. with new c&a material planned for 2014, plus more to come from jamies new solo efforts, as well as nigel making a long overdue reappearance in maurice & charles, now seems the right time to draw a line under their collective work to date. here then are a collection of unreleased interpretatons, including the sought after vocal remix of psychedlic darlings, in goats anthemic run to your mama. this is followed by a late night dub of 80s pop duo blancmange that mixes strings, guitar and some dub bass with a dose of space echo before bringing neil arthur s classicly recognisable refrain shining through. to finish is a remix of goats label mates teeth of the sea. fx-soundtrack vocal, bubbling 303 and 808 combine on a proper 3am dub that builds beyond some mere drug-chug.

this return of ferox records sees an enthusiastic response from all. the label has forthcoming releases from many original ferox artists and some new recruits and collaborations along the way. this, the first release in 5 years, sees label head-honcho russ gabriel in action under his too funk guise. from the first return of too funk ep to the later hotel ibis and derrick carters remix of venus fly trap, russs too funk grooves have been jacking dance floors on both sides of the atlantic since 1995.

*it all started in 1974 with the purchase of my first mini moog and another 70s dream machine, a white mellotron m 400.* so starts klaus hoffmann of his 40 years love affair with the mellotron. moving from prog-rock guitarist to cosmic disco warrior in a space of a few years, the birth of cosmic hoffmann would lead to a number of classic kosmiche albums through-out the 1980s. before this though came space-disco. initially recorded in 1978 after endless late night sessions exploring the new realms of this free form electronic music, the first incarnation was recorded live to tape for a failed film project. an uplifting spaced-out synth journey, it was the later reworked version that would go on to become the lost cult classic. with added disco syncopation taking the track into interstellar spheres, it appeared only as a flipside of cosmic hoffmanns first and last single, *weltraumboogie*, in 1982. unfortunately the release did not make much impression at the time but has become highly sought-after for the more leftfield dj and music lovers in the years since. now fully licensed and remastered, the inclusion of the unreleased 1978 original will be only add to the collectors dream.

pascal blanché, wojtek kutschke and vocalist lukas polocze – better known as chasing kurt –originally released this track on their album of the same name. now * from the inside* has been given the remix treatment by some of worlds most respected house producers. first up is legendary german artist henrik schwarz, who has a knack for making every one of his productions as exciting as the next. his rendition of * from the inside* is no anomaly as he demonstrates his sublime approach to music making by using analogue bass stabs and violin bowing before floating atmospheric synths emerge to take centre stage. konstantin sibolds mix is a completely different beast altogether, using denser kick drums and haunting claps as the bed for reverberating vocals and a bouncy hook

adding to his extensive and diverse catalog, alexi delano delivers his first release for spectral sound. my busted sh-101 is an ode to the beloved and portable synthesizer made by roland in the early 80s, not long before delano started djing. as a producer, he s earned a reputation for being a bit of a machine himself, churning out records on a wide variety of labels over the last 20 years. he holds his own in house music under his a.d.n.y. moniker, but its with tracks such as this one that show off his love for dark, weird techno that sits comfortably alongside spectrals finest.
